In a word, no.
Our goal was to be 100% debt free, including the mortgage, by 2012. We still have our mortgage. We DO NOT have any other debt, which is a bonus. We paid off my husband’s student debt. We have bought two cars since I started this blog in 2006. We have taken trips all over the country, and one trip to Europe. My husband has maintained his employment in this shaky economy, and I have both gained and lost jobs during this time. It has been a very exciting journey.
Even though we did not make 100% of our goal, we are still closer than we would have been if we had decided that debt was a part of life and could not be avoided. We refinanced to an insanely low rate a few months ago, which will help accelerate our pay down date. Our new calculation is being 100% debt free by 2014. Still not so bad- and who knows? Maybe we’ll get it paid off earlier than that.

Pictured: $1.26 worth of groceries
Earlier today I was trying to gather some missing ingredients for our dinner WITHOUT spending a ton of money.
I’m happy to report that it was successful! Here’s how I did it:
- I got four packs of razors (1.97 each) with two $6 off coupons, leaving a $4.12 overage. I could apply that money towards the other things I needed.
- I went and picked up some sour cream. The coupon I had did not make a very good deal, so I got some store brand sour cream for .98.
- I got .41 lb of tomatoes, which cost .48 cents. (remember, there are only two of us- that’s plenty for one meal!)
- I got green leaf lettuce for 1.27.
- I got a pack of pepper jack cheese (2.98) and I had a dollar off coupon.
The total BEFORE coupons (including tax) was 14.26.

$1.26 !!!
I won’t have to buy razors for at least two years as well! SWEET. I love coupons!
